14 May 2013 - Belgian Proba-V satellite launched to chart worldwide vegetation
The Proba-V satellite was launched 07/05 from Kourou (French Guiana) at 04:06 Belgian time. The satellite will chart worldwide vegetation. The data collected by the satellite will make it possible to estimate the consequences of climate change and monitor surface water better, as well as tracking agriculture and supervising food safety. The aerospace company QinetiQ Space from Kruibeke is the principle contractor for manufacturing the satellite.

7 May 2013 - ESA's Vega launcher scores new success with Proba-V
The second flight of ESA's newest launch vehicle has been completed from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. Two Earth observation satellites, ESA's Proba-V and Vietnam's VNREDSat‑1A, were released into different orbits, demonstrating the rocket's versatility. Estonia's first satellite, the ESTCube‑1 technology demonstrator, was also released into orbit.

7 November 2012 - Imec in cooperation with VRI (Flemish Space Industry) organizes a one day event to share your Space related collaborative project ideas!
The purpose of this Space Research and Industry Day - Collaboration in Benelux Area, is to allow participants, firstly to share projects’ ideas and find partners for collaboration for the forthcoming ESA and EU project calls, and secondly to discuss as well as share experience about their Space related R&D.

Workshop "What can GALILEO and GMES do for society?"
To get a better a better view of the chances these two important European space programmes offer for users, VRI (Flemish Space Industries) organized on April 10th a workshop together with VLEVA (Liaison Agency Flanders-Europe) and the Belgian Science Policy. During this event some Belgian companies presented the added value for potential users of GALILEO and GMES by highlighting their activities in the field.

Umicore Solar Team
The Umicore Solar Team competed for the second time in the Panasonic World Solar Challenge 2007 in Australia. The Belgian team ended secondly after the Dutch team of TU Delft and with a large lead on the teams from Australia, Japan and the USA.
The VRI members Umicore, LMS, VITO and the Von Karman Institute participated in this successful mission.
